National League of Junior Cotillions
Golden Triangle Chapter
Welcome
Welcome to the Golden Triangle Chapter of the National League of Junior Cotillions where we offer Co-Ed manners, etiquette, and social skills training. We proudly celebrate our 22th year offering three training options - Pre-Cotillion (grades 1-4), Junior Cotillion (grades 5-8) and High School Cotillion (grades 9-12).
Junior Cotillion and High School Cotillion classes will be held at St Patrick's Church's Social Hall in the Mount Dora, on one Saturday afternoon a month from October -March. As a chapter, we feel, the gift of self-confidence, social skills, and manners is of the utmost importance. This is an area of adolescense where children often need urging from thier parents to enroll/participate. However, after the first class, many students understand the value of attending training on social engagement and etiquette. In a world of digital technology, consider giving your child the gift of manners and social skills. Class size is limited and filled on a first come first served basis.
Pre-Cotillion, for students 1st thru 4th grade, is held in a small group setting with four classes that teach manners and skills that set the foundation for Junior Cotillion. In the past, this program has been a collaboration with Montverde Academy as an after school program.
If a parent or organization (ex: homeschool co-op, PTA) can arrange a minimum of 15 students, there are options to offer a private Pre-Cotillion program at their location.
The Junior Cotillion programs help prepare your child for a confident and more successful future. Classes are designed to build upon one another, teaching age appropriate information that allows students to learn and practice social skills, character development and dance in a comfortable environments. We offer a Junior Cotillion Year I class for 5th-6th graders and a Junior Cotillion Year II class for 7th-8th graders or those students who have already completed Year I.
High School Cotillion covers life skills that prepare them for college, the work place and the world. Some of the subjects covered are: career planning, personality testing, developing your strengths, business luncheon with speakers or a formal five course dinner, resume building and a review of the necessary basic etiquette skills.
Basics in social dance - Fox Trot, Swing, ChaCha, Waltz and numerous popular line dances. These dances are taught to modern music which has been approved at the NLJC corporate level for content. These basic dance skills will give you child confidence at their next school dance, formal event, or prom.
Many students become assistants after completing their three years of Junior Cotillion. This allows them further exposure to all events and reinforces previously leanred skills. The assistants serve as mentors to the younger students. Assistants are able to receive community service hours towards high school requirements. Many of our Cotillion students have received the Mount Dora Sister City exchange scholarship that allows them the summer in Flores Scotland. These students have attributed this honor to the skills they received from classes and especially the skills taught in the interview preparation class taught in the High School Cotillion.
Students come from many different backgrounds and schools in the area. We also have a large homeschool enrollment. Peparing your child for the future is our mission. Many graduates continue to keep in touch and share their success stories and achievements!
