As a young sixth grader I walked into the doors of the Junior Cotillion not fully knowing what I was getting myself into. At first I was somewhat nervous, but as the class progressed I really enjoyed going to the Junior Cotillion and learning new things. Now as a senior in high school and an assistant in the Junior Cotillion, I have been able to utilize many of the valuable lessons that I had learned through the Junior Cotillion. Whether it was knowing how to dine properly, communicate with college counselors, impress a homecoming date with my proper etiquette, or simply knowing which side to place my nametag for college receptions, the Junior Cotillion has had a very positive impact on my life and the lessons I have learned from Junior Cotillion will most definitely be life-long.

Cotillion is a wonderful way for children to learn and reinforce those social skills that are so important as they grow and mature. As an adult, knowing how to behave properly in all types of social situations is vitally important. It translates into success in life. As young people move into their teenage and college years attending dances and formals and later in their professional careers as they attend social functions and formal business dinners, they have to know the proper ways to conduct themselves. Cotillion teaches them the importance of manners and etiquette, skills that nowadays are often times forgotten. To be successful in life, you must know how to conduct yourself in a social setting, Cotillion provides that foundation and education.
As a result of her Cotillion experience, our daughter has more confidence and poise when she is facing a new social experience. Recently she had to attend an extended family gathering, and she was much more relaxed and gracious as she was introduced to friends and relatives that she had never met before. I know she was more comfortable in this situation because of her Cotillion experience.

As parents, we try to teach our children how to behave properly at the dinner table and use their manners. Cotillion allows them the opportunity to put those skills into action, refine them and learn how to interact in many different types of social situations. Thank you for teaching those skills that are so vitally important to one’s success in life. Manners and etiquette are often overlooked in our fast-paced world, but it is hard to overlook an adult who acts awkwardly in a social situation.

My daughter Lauren loved being a part of the Plano Chapter of the National League of Junior Cotillions! She now has more self-confidence at social events and with adults as a result of her cotillion experience.
