National League of Junior Cotillions
Bay County Chapter
Welcome! The Bay County Chapter of the National League of Junior Cotillions was founded in 2015 to share the mission of NLJC of learning to treat others with honor, dignity, and respect. Registration for 2019-20 is for incoming 6th through 8th grade students.
We are passionate about the National League of Junior Cotillions because it is a nation-wide program that teaches children: dining etiquette, ethics, character education, everyday manners and ballroom dancing.
Social and character education components of the program include: proper telephone courtesy, introductions, receiving lines, polite conversations, first impressions, dress code for all occasions, manners in the home and public, table manners, formal place settings, sports etiquette and many other areas of social behavior. Dance instruction includes steps in the Foxtrot, Shag Swing, Waltz, Cha-Cha and current line dances.
The Junior Cotillion setting encourages young ladies and gentlemen to interact comfortably together and make new friends. After constant practice in a peer group, young ladies and gentlemen leave the program equipped with confidence and poise that comes from knowing the proper etiquette in any social situation. Instruction in dancing and etiquette will be given throughout all sessions. The highlight of the year is the Grand Spring Ball.
We are very excited to bring Pre-Cotillion classes to our program starting June, 2018. We will offer classes for students completing 1st & 2nd grades. Our classes cover manners in the home, being introduced and shaking hands, paying and receiving compliments, birthday party etiquette, basic table manners, fast food etiquette, thank you notes and a basic line dance. The classes are geared toward age appropriate activities and make learning manners and etiquette fun!
New for 2019-20 will be the High School Life Skills Program. It is designed specifically for High School students in 10th - 12th grades. New etiquette and character development topics which are pertinent to the high school years, such as interviewing for scholarships and jobs, budgeting and banking 101, personality type, positive self-esteem and handling peer-pressure will be presented and discussed. This program will bridge the gap for today's high schooler between their education and the real world in a meaningful way.
We have posted our 2019-20 schedule on the left, under "Classes". The cost is $275.00 for Season One, $300.00 for Season Two and $325.00 for the High School Program. Your spot is not secured until you have paid the deposit ($135.00). You can pay on-line or mail a check to NLJC Bay County Chapter to 4734 Baywood Dr. Lynn Haven, FL 32444. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] or call me with any questions at 814-3338.
My name is Donna Thompson and I am so excited about starting a National League of Junior Cotillions chapter in our area. My husband, Waylon, and I have lived in Lynn Haven, Florida for over 30 years and we have three children, Lauren, Merideth, and Lawson. I have a B.S. in Accounting and worked in the accounting field until I decided to stay home as a full-time mom. I have enjoyed volunteering in my children's schools and our church. My goal as the director of the NLJC Bay County Chapter is to teach children skills that they will be able to carry with them throughout high school, college and into their careers. Our first year with the Junior Cotillion, we had 185 students. It was a wonderful year with fabulous students and parents. If you are interested in finding out more about this wonderful new program coming to our area please contact me by email @ [email protected] or by phone 850-814-3338.
