National League of Junior Cotillions
Bay County Chapter

Welcome

Welcome! The Bay County Chapter of the National League of Junior Cotillions was founded in 2015 to share the mission of NLJC of learning to treat others with honor, dignity, and respect.   Registration for 2023-24  is for incoming 6th through 8th grade students.

We are passionate about the National League of Junior Cotillions because it is a nation-wide program that teaches children: dining etiquette, ethics, character education, everyday manners and ballroom dancing.

Social and character education components of the program include: proper telephone courtesy, introductions, receiving lines, polite conversations, first impressions, dress code for all occasions, manners in the home and public, table manners, formal place settings, sports etiquette and many other areas of social behavior.  Dance instruction includes steps in the Foxtrot, Shag Swing, Waltz, Cha-Cha and current line dances.

The Junior Cotillion setting encourages young ladies and gentlemen to interact comfortably together and make new friends. After constant practice in a peer group, young ladies and gentlemen leave the program equipped with confidence and poise that comes from knowing the proper etiquette in any social situation. Instruction in dancing and etiquette will be given throughout all sessions. The highlight of the year is the Grand Spring Ball.

We were very excited to bring Pre-Cotillion classes to our program starting June, 2018.  Pre-Cotillion for 2023 will be offered July 10th - 13th. We offer classes for students completing the 1st through 4th grade.  Our classes cover manners in the home, being introduced and shaking hands, paying and receiving compliments, birthday party etiquette, basic table manners,  fast food etiquette, thank you notes and a basic line dance. The classes are geared toward age appropriate activities and make learning manners and etiquette fun!

About Director

My name is Donna Thompson and I am so excited about starting a National League of Junior Cotillions chapter in our area. My husband, Waylon, and I have lived in Lynn Haven, Florida for over 30 years and we have three children, Lauren, Merideth, and Lawson and the sweetest grandson, Declan. I have a B.S. in Accounting and worked in the accounting field until I decided to stay home as a full-time mom. I have enjoyed volunteering in my children's schools and our church. My goal as the director of the NLJC Bay County Chapter is to teach children skills that they will be able to carry with them throughout high school, college and into their careers. If you are interested in finding out more about this wonderful new program coming to our area please contact me by email @ [email protected] or by phone 850-814-3338.
