Welcome Parents,

The cost for Season II for 5th - 8th graders, it's $329 which will also include a full 5 course meal.  (Only half of the payment is due after you register and receive a confirmation email. The remainder is due by September 15.)

Junior Cotillion is open to everyone in Western Kentucky.  We do send invitations to those who provide us with their students name and mailing address.  To request an formal invitation, click on the Directors Contact tab and give us your child's name, grade for 2017, school and mailing address.  Please feel free to share this website with friend and family that might be interested in joining us!

We are currently looking for Advisory Board Parents to help us spread the word about the Junior Cotillion Program and help us reach out to as many students and parents as we can.  These parents are asked to chaperone one of the dances or balls, which is lots of fun.  We are also looking for high school students that can participate int he program for free as helpers.  If you are interested in helping us this year, please contact us by [email protected] or at 270-210-1339.

  Information for Parents

We are delighted to introduce you to the NATIONAL LEAGUE OF JUNIOR COTILLIONS™, the nation's only organization that trains and licenses directors to establish local cotillion programs. Few institutions today can claim to have a positive impact on our nation's youth. Certainly we, as parents, are aware of the many influences reaching our children in ways we often feel powerless to control. Through a program that builds self-confidence and character, and helps set boundaries of behavior, the NATIONAL LEAGUE OF JUNIOR COTILLIONS™ offers parents a welcome alternative for their children.  No other organization has trained so many young people in character and social education.

The National League of Junior Cotillions' is a program of etiquette, ethics, manners and social dance training with licensed chapters in 38 states. Training thousands of young people each year, NLJC has been featured by major networks including NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN and the Associated Press. The purpose of the Junior Cotillion program is to give young people instruction and practice in courtesies that make life more pleasant for them and those around them. Having the knowledge of social skills is important for every child's success in life.

Junior Cotillion provides the instruction that will help your child become a self-confident young lady or gentleman. The rules of etiquette, ethics and manners are designed to make sure everyone knows what to do in social situations, so no one will feel uncomfortable.

Training in standard ballroom dancing gives young people a social skill that they can enjoy their entire life. The etiquette in social dance encompasses all aspects of proper behavior. Students will learn the Fox Trot, Waltz, Cha Cha, Swing and several line dances. All dancing is taught to Top 40 music that has been screened for lyrics.

Classes provide opportunities to learn and practice new skills in a safe and comfortable environment. Instruction includes introductions and shaking hands, table manners, telephone and electronic etiquette, polite conversation, interview skills, wedding and party etiquette, thank you notes, business etiquette, RSVP etiquette and proper interaction between ladies and gentlemen.

Classes meet only once a month due to busy lifestyles. The classes are comprised of equal numbers of ladies and gentlemen. Participating students come from local middle and intermediate schools. Participants have the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends in a controlled social setting.

Jr. Cotillion is under the direction of Ms. Melinda Devine.  The course consists of five classes and two Balls that meet once a month starting in September 24th and conclude in March.  We will have a Winter Ball and then the Grand Spring Ball will be the culmination of the cotillion year.

We look forward to meeting you soon!

Regards,

Ms. Melinda Devine, Director

About Director

My name is Ms. Melinda Devine and I am so excited to be the new director for the National League of Junior Cotillions Kentucky Lake Chapter.  I have a  Masters and Bachelors Degree from Murray State University through the College of Business in Organizational Communication.  I have two wonderful children and I live in Livingston County, Kentucky.

The first chapter of what is now NLJC was established in North Carolina in 1979 and the expansion of the program founded by Charles and Anne Winters began in 1989. Today, thousands of students are being taught etiquette, ethics and social dance in hundreds of cotillion programs presented by chapters in more than 30 states.

We have nothing like this program in our area.  It is an honor to teach our children Honor, Dignity and Respect from a quality program and it builds their self-confidence!  If you were wondering Cotillion in French means, "social dance."   I was so excited to find a program that presents manners, etiquette and dance to modern music and the kids have a great time.  They learn new social skills and then they have an opportunity to show off those dancing skills they have learned as they dance at the balls!
