NLJC Mission Statement

To teach young people to act with honor, dignity, and respect—building stronger relationships with family, friends, and future business associates—while learning and practicing ballroom dance.

What is Junior Cotillion™?

National League of Junior Cotillion is a program designed to equip young people with the skills and confidence needed for life’s social situations. Students learn essential etiquette, character development, and standard ballroom dance in a structured, fun, and memorable environment.

Each class includes opportunities to practice these skills at engaging events such as parties, dinners, and balls—complete with decorations, refreshments, favors, and prizes.

The program emphasizes both social etiquette and character education, helping students develop confidence, respect, and strong personal values.

What Students Learn

Etiquette & Social Skills

Students are taught practical life skills, including:

• Introductions and greetings
• Telephone and electronic etiquette
• Table manners and formal dining (American, Asian, and Continental styles)
• Receiving lines and group social settings
• Paying and receiving compliments
• Guest and host responsibilities
• Sportsmanship and party courtesies
• Dress codes and first impressions
• Manners in public and at home

Character Development

We focus on building strong character through:

• Honesty and integrity
• Respect and responsibility
• Citizenship and accountability
• Excellence in behavior
• Handling peer pressure

Ballroom Dance Instruction

Students learn:

• Music appreciation and dance etiquette
• Basic steps for waltz, foxtrot, cha-cha, swing, salsa, and samba

Class Format

The program includes five monthly classes (September–March), designed to fit busy family schedules. Each class includes an equal number of ladies and gentlemen from local middle and intermediate schools, providing a positive and structured environment to meet new friends.

Dress Code

Classes are dress-up events that emphasize neatness and respect for occasion.

• Hair should be neatly groomed
• Nails clean and trimmed
• Shoes polished and appropriate for dancing (no athletic shoes, flip flops, or slides)

Ladies: Conservative dresses or skirts with dress shoes (no leggings)
Gentlemen: Long-sleeve dress shirt, khaki pants, tie, navy blazer, and dress shoes

Payment

The full program fee is $335.

• Option 1: Pay in full at registration
• Option 2: $167.50 at registration, with remaining $167.50 due by September 1
