Welcome to the Winston-Salem Chapter of the National League of Junior Cotillions!

The National League of Junior Cotillions has been a trusted leader in character education, modern manners, ballroom dance, and dining etiquette since 1978. The Winston-Salem Chapter warmly invites you to explore our program and discover the transformative impact we are making in the lives of youth in our community.

We are shaping the next generation of confident, respectful, and poised young individuals!

Junior Cotillion is a character education program specifically designed to teach students in grades 5-9 dining etiquette, manners, character, and modern ballroom dancing. The program aims to foster self-confidence and respect by offering guidance and practice in social courtesies that enhance their lives and positively impact those around them.

Summer 2026: July 20-23, Mon-Thu

Pre-Cotillion I (grades 1 & 2) and Pre-cotillion ii (grades 3 & 4) 

Summer 2026 classes are forming. The program includes all manners, protocol, class venue, materials, refreshments, and a graduation ceremony. (4 classes in a summer sessions Mon-Thur afternoons).

Dates are July 20-23, 2026 Mon-Thur at The Historic Brookstown Inn, Winston-Salem

1pm-2:30 pm grades 1-2

3:00 pm - 4:30 pm grades 3-4

Tuition is $225. 

Fall 2026-Spring 2027:

Junior Cotillion I

Grades 5 & 6 for students new to cotillion:  Includes five monthly classes (Sunday afternoons or Tuesday evenings), two formal balls (Dec &March), all manners, protocol, dance instruction, class venue, materials, and refreshments. Tuition is $400.

The monthly classes run on the following school calendar, September - March (2026-2027 dates TBD)

  • Sept Introduction class one
  • Oct Autumn class two
  • Nov Thanksgiving class three
  • Dec Holiday Dance
  • Jan Winter class four
  • Feb Valentine's class five, Parents Dip into Dancing
  • March Grand Spring Ball


Junior Cotillion II:

Grades 6 (returning), and all 7, 8, 9 (new and returning) students: Five monthly classes (Sunday afternoons or Tuesday evenings), formal Spring ball (March), one formal multi-course instructional meal, protocol, dance instruction, class venue, materials, and refreshments. Tuition is $435.

The monthly classes run on the following school calendar, September - March (2026-2027 dates TBD)

  • Sept Introduction class one
  • Oct Autumn Class two
  • Nov Thanksgiving Class three
  • Dec Multi-course Instructional dinner
  • Jan Winter Class four
  • Feb Valentine's Class five, Parents Dip into Dancing
  • March Grand Spring Ball

Tuesday evenings (once a month) at The Barn at Reynolda Village:  9/8/2026, 10/13/2026, 11/10/2026, 1/12/2027, 2/9/2027 

* 5:30-6:45 pm Junior Cotillion I (grades 5-6 new to cotillion) 

* 7:00 pm 08:15 Junior Cotillion II (grades 6 (returning), 7, 8, 9)

Sunday afternoons at The Historic Brookstown Inn, Winston-Salem, NC 2026:  9/13/2026, 10/4/2026, 11/8/2026, 1/10/2027, 2/7/2027

1:00-2:30 pm Junior Cotillion I (grades 5 new to cotillion) 

2:45 pm - 4:15 pm Junior Cotillion I  (grades 6 new to cotillion) 

4:30 pm - 6:00 pm Junior Cotillion II ((grades 6 (returning), 7, 8, 9)

Sunday, December 20, 2026 Holly Ball: Junior Cotillion I (2-4 pm) & Instructional Dinner: Junior Cotillion II (5-7 pm) at the Maple Chase Country Club, Winston-Salem

Sunday, March 14, 2027 Grand Spring Ball: Junior Cotillion I (2-4 pm) & Junior Cotillion II (5-7 pm) at the Maple Chase Country Club, Winston-Salem

COTILLION ASSISTANT: Volunteer 10th - 12th Grade students:

Cotillion Assistants are volunteer high school students in grades 10-12 who participate in the Junior Cotillion program (a value of $400-$435) as class assistants during the season of September 2026- March 2027 for either Sunday or Tuesday classes. Service hours are earned, and students gain leadership experience in this role. Fee is $25 for materials. Send an email to [email protected] to apply. 

Sunday afternoon class service hours are 12:00 pm-5:00 pm on the following months/classes. (2026-2027 dates TBD)

Tuesday evening class service hours are 4:30 pm-8:30 pm on the following months/classes. (2026-2027 dates TBD)

Tuition Payments

To secure your child's spot, tuition payment is due upon registration via Stripe.

Junior Cotillion Refund Policy: Refunds will be given in the case of a student's serious illness or a family relocating away from the Winston-Salem area.  A $60 processing fee applies to all refunds.

About the Director

We are passionate about teaching manners and etiquette! Our inspiration comes from founders Charles and Anne Winters, who founded the National League of Junior Cotillions® (NLJC) in 1989.  The Forsyth County NLJC director is Michelle Bardsley, an educator, entrepreneur, community advocate, mother of four adult children, and grandmother to six young grandchildren. 

Today, NLJC is a nationwide program dedicated to instilling confidence, courtesy, and essential social skills in young people. We are committed to honoring and continuing Anne’s legacy by upholding traditions that emphasize kindness, character, and social education. Our mission is to teach modern manners and everyday etiquette, creating a positive impact on your life and family.
