Student Essay. Why Cotillion is important to me
Why Cotillion is Important to Me
By: Isabel
Before I joined the class my mom would give me a quick reminder of nice behavior when we went to a special place, but it didn’t really stick with me. When she told me going to cotillion would be better I did not want to go to cotillion. I had to wear a dress and gloves, sit properly and dance, and awkwardly talk to strangers; but being in cotillion has really helped me. After only two classes I have realized that it has really made me more mature and a better person in general. I can honestly say that my confidence has really improved and so have my speaking skills. I am also calm and composed going to a fancy restaurant, including how to be seated and eat properly, while having polite conversation. Even though dancing took some getting used to, I am excited to go to my first school dance. And now I can speak to adults with ease and with confidence, and deal with unexpected situations gracefully. At home, I will open the door, do the dishes and help my siblings more because of the cotillion. Now I believe that being on time is late and being early is on time too. If someone told me they were going to cotillion I would tell them it is very important and that it will really help them later in life.
