Welcome

“COTILLION: EMPOWERING CHILDREN FOR A LIFETIME OF SUCCESS”

Children learn confidence and character at the National League of Junior Cotillion Loudoun Chapter, as they learn and practice vital skills such as introductions, etiquette, table manners, social skills, respect and courtesy. Let us add to what you are teaching at home and give your child formalized opportunities for practice of these success-inducing skills in a safe and friendly environment.

PRE-COTILLION (Grades K-4)

Grades K-4 offers instruction in the areas of basic manners in the home.  We reinforce the manners you are already teaching your children such as appearances, introductions, sports manners how to make positive first impression, and table manners including such things as the proper way to eat soup, using a knife and fork.  Pre-Cotillion introduces power words, that will instill common courtesies throughout their lifetime – thank you, you’re welcome, yes ma’am, no ma’am, yes sir, no sir, please, may I?, I’m sorry and excuse me.  The students will work on building character by learning about respect, integrity, and dignity. Practice makes permanent as our students practice looking people in the eye, smiling, working on impeccable table manners, thank you notes, and using correct manners in public places. Dance instruction will be introduced while learning basic line dance steps. The last class will be a graduation, three course instructional dinner celebration.  Certificates and Cotillion medals will be awarded to all graduates.

Dress Code for Pre-Cotillion is Dressy Casual.  No gloves are needed for young ladies unless they would like to wear them.

JUNIOR COTILLION (GRADES 5-7)

"NLJC Cotillion program DIRECTOR’S PHILOSOPHY: As an experienced mother, I know that our children must know not only which fork to use at a fancy dinner, but also must know how to conduct themselves in a wide variety of social settings. I encourage you to join us as we teach etiquette, “tricks of the trade,” and tips for success at school, work, parties, teams, and anywhere your child goes in life.

Being a mother has taught me much about the absolute need for manners, grace and integrity. I know that our children must know not only basic table manners, but also they need to practice honor and respect in order to succeed in life. Knowledge and practice are the keys. Cotillion provides a safe and fun place where some real tools for life can be learned and practiced."

Warm Regards,

Jean Ann Michie
