National League of Junior Cotillions
Roanoke Valley Chapter
About
Junior Cotillion is a robust organization that requires many people and resources to give our children the best experience possible.
We encourage all family and friends to be pro-active with volunteering, so here are some ways you can help our children develop their social skills:
- practice at home
- offer to chaperone one of our events
- help the director recruit high school assistants as special helpers
We go over what they'll need as they get older, as they mature into responsible young adults:
+ telephone manners
+ attending weddings
+ strengthening quality friendships
+ stepping out of that comfort zone
These young people are learning more than just how to dance... they learn to introduce themselves, how to draw healthy boundaries, how to "be there" for each other and to "be present in the moment." Many people don't learn these skills until they're much older. Kids who attend cotillion lessons are well prepared for extended family gatherings and out-of-town-company; they know that they have a responsibility to practice their manners, which builds confidence and competence in the next generation.
Please send the students to Cotillion in their "Sunday best!"
NOTE: have them leave their cell phones, airpods and smartwatches at home! We are screen-free.
The Roanoke Valley Chapter of Junior Cotillion is an open, friendly, welcoming association. nljc.com/chapter/Roanoke Valley
Our very special Season Two "Five Course Instructional Dinner" was held this past spring for our second-year students, at the Shenandoah Club ... with butlered hors d'ouerves, soup, salad, sorbet, an entree' and a delightful dessert course! We practiced passing dishes family style, and also became more comfortable with the table-side service of fine dining.
