While things certainly look different during this time, it is still possible to celebrate the Fourth of July well. Social distancing can be a tricky obstacle to navigate but nevertheless this July fourth you and your family still have the opportunity to celebrate.

 

In the past, you may have spent the 4th with a large group of people at the lake or at your pool consider doing this in a modified way. Load up the car and take your family to a lake day or hang out in the back yard by the pool. You could consider playing fun water games to entertain the children.  If visiting the lake, be sure to show respect to others by allowing space for physical distancing.

 

Because of state regulations, it is likely that fireworks will not be set off by cities or organizations that have previously done so. Instead, stop by the store and purchase a few colored sparklers to entertain the kids and stay festive!

 

Another fun activity to consider is making patriotic foods and desserts with your children that they are sure to enjoy. Log on to Pinterest, find a recipe that sounds delicious and that embraces the red, white, and blue, then make a quick run to the store. Not only will you have fun making it, but it will also be a great addition to your modified Independence Day celebration.

 

Because things have completely changed, it is important to be creative. Try things you have never done before. The National League of Junior Cotillions® teaches the importance of flag etiquette during classes. One thing you and your family could do is learn how to fold the flag together. Also consider reviewing the NLJC Student Booklet for more information regarding flag etiquette that can be used to remind your children the importance of upholding the American flag with dignity.

 

While it is obvious that this year’s celebration will be modified, it is important that we still celebrate! Make your own decorations, have a picnic, or even watch a patriotic movie. The opportunities are endless. Whatever you do show kindness and respect by honoring social distancing guidelines and celebrating the independence of the USA!
