As a parent, it seems that the most important thing that you can do for your children is teach them strong values that they can carry through life. But how does one do this? While there isn’t a step-by-step book explaining how and ensuring success, we have a few ideas to keep in mind when teaching your children how to be leaders.

The first is simple: Lead by example. Your children are listening to what you say and listening to your words and watching your actions. With this in mind, make the most of each situation. During times of stress, do not allow your words to cause issues in your life. Furthermore, when things are good use that opportunity to show your children the example of humility and gratefulness.

Next, it is extremely important to keep the conversation going with your kids. Be an active contributor in their day to day lives. While at times they may seem uninterested in responding, be sure to ask questions. This allows you to walk through their daily interactions and show them how to be a leader within those contexts.

Additionally, a pivotal way for your children to understand and imitate leadership skills is by getting them involved in extracurriculars. Joining sports teams teaches young leaders how to work with others towards a common goal which is crucial. Furthermore, having them involved in organizations such as book clubs allow children to learn how to express ideas and collaborate with others on their ideas.

And finally, the National League of Junior Cotillions® is an opportunity for students to meet others, learn social graces, and be taught the value of upholding characteristics such as honor, dignity, and respect. In addition to this, students are able to practice, first-hand, skills that will be useful to aid them as they develop into strong, independent leaders.
